Solitaire (or 'patience') is a genre of single-player card games that provide a great way to exercise your mind and relax, and is a beloved pastime for many people.
Despite popular misconception, "solitaire" is not a single game, but hundreds, even thousands, of individual games, of nearly infinite variety. The only unifying thread is that all solitaire games are played by a single player (well, except for a few competitive solitaires).
Solitaire games vary from simple, mechanical games to complex creations that require a great deal of strategy and thought to successfully complete.
Though it's impossible to list all possible solitaire games, here are a few of the most popular and well-known solitaires:
- Calculation
- Canfield
- Chinese Solitaire
- Clock
- Concentration
- Forty Thieves
- FreeCell
- Golf
- Idiot's Delight
- Klondike (AKA "Windows Solitaire"
- La Belle Lucie
- Mount Sunflower
- Pyramid
- Scorpion
- Spider
- TriPeaks
- Yukon
